Legal Justice & Systemic Reform
- Fight unjust laws, policies, and practices that dehumanize borrowers
- File Public Interest Litigations (PILs) to challenge unlawful actions by credit bureaus, banks, and fintechs
- Ensure proper grievance redressal for borrowers treated unfairly
Restoring Dignity to Borrowers
- Campaign against public shaming, coercive recovery tactics, and character assassination
- Raise public awareness that default ≠ fraud
- Demand the same legal protections for borrowers as consumers or patients
Reforming the Credit Ecosystem
- Push for fairer credit scoring models that include context and intention
- Campaign for transparent, regulated, and accountable Credit Bureaus
- Demand laws that allow second chances, financial rehabilitation, and reintegration into the banking ecosystem
Empowering Borrowers Through Knowledge
- Educate citizens about their rights as borrowers
- Help them understand how the system works — and where it fails
- Create a repository of verified knowledge, templates, videos, and success stories
Building a Nationwide Borrowers’ Movement
- Unite affected borrowers across the country
- Build a support community of voices that cannot be silenced
- Mobilize public opinion, legal minds, economists, and policymakers to bring about change
We demand a comprehensive overhaul of how borrowers are treated in India.
Because in a democracy, even the smallest voice deserves to be heard — especially when it’s been silenced for far too long..
Stop Public Humiliation of Borrowers
- Stop public announcements & stop publishing photos in the newspapers
- Make it illegal to publish photographs or personal details in possession or auction notices
- Ban drum-beating, loudspeakers, outside borrowers' homes
- Penalize banks and agents who violate dignity through coercive recovery practices
Reform the Credit Bureau Ecosystem
- Introduce regulation and audit mechanisms for CIBIL, Equifax, Experian, and CRIF High Mark
- Establish a Borrowers’ Grievance Redressal Forum independent of credit bureaus
- Create a “Right to Repair” policy — so borrowers can rebuild credit after genuine hardship
- Mandate clear timelines and procedures for dispute resolution
Enforce Data Privacy and Protection
- Restrict unauthorized sharing of borrowers’ personal and financial data
- Prohibit fintech apps and banks from profiling users based on social, digital, or location data
- Implement strong data protection laws that respect the Right to Privacy under Article 21
- Ensure explicit borrower consent before data is accessed, analyzed, or transferred
Rehabilitate, Don’t Destroy
- Introduce a Borrower Rehabilitation Policy, especially for:
- Failed entrepreneurs
- COVID-affected families
- Medical emergency defaulters
- Job loss survivors
- Offer counselling, rescheduling, settlement, and restart support
- Create a Second-Chance Framework under RBI guidelines
Redefine the Language of Default
- Differentiate between
- Willful defaulters
- Victims of genuine hardship
- Business failure cases
- End the practice of branding all defaulters as “non-creditworthy”
- Humanize credit reports with contextual notes and structured re-assessment
Hold Banks & Bureaus Accountable
- Impose strict penalties on banks and agents violating RBI recovery norms
- Make credit rating agencies answerable to Parliament and public audits
- Create an independent oversight body to monitor violations and systemic abuse
Build a Fair, Inclusive, and Humane Credit System
- Mandate financial literacy and legal awareness for borrowers
- Promote digital due process, not digital blacklisting
- Ensure inclusion of distressed borrowers in government welfare and MSME schemes
- Set up a Borrowers’ Protection Cell under RBI or Ministry of Finance
